Broken Arrow edges softball Lady Cats

Ponca City rzllied put together a late rally Thursday night, but it fell short and Broken Arrow ended up with a 6-3 victory in a district contest at West Middle School.

Broken Arrow led 5-0 going in the sixth inning, but then the Lady Cats put three runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. The visiting Lady Tigers scored twice in the second, once in the fourth, once in the fifth, once in the sixth and once in the seventh.

Ponca City had five hits, with Bri Meyer and Adisyn Ivers each getting two. Caitlin Cooper had the other hit, a big home run in the threerun sixth Broken Arrow had 11 hits.

Meyer started in the pitching circle for Ponca City. She went 6.1 innings and gave up six runs on 11 hits. Savannah Clark pitched the final twothirds of an inning.

In the Ponca City sixth, Ivers led off with a single. After two outs were recorded, Meyer drew a base on balls. Then came Cooper’s three-run blast over the center field fence.

The Lady Cats didn’t go down without a fight. Trailing 6-3 in the seventh. Alex Zimmerschied led off by being hit by a pitch. Clark bunted the runner to second and then Ivers drew a walk, putting the tying run at the plate. But the inning and game ended without a run scoring.

The Lady Cats have a game on the road at Tulsa Union on Monday and then return to the West Middle School field for a game on Tuesday against Del City.
