Nancy Joan Harvey Rogers passed away on March 8, 2023, in Stillwater Medical Center. Nancy was born March 5, 1928, to N. Vergil Harvey and Edna Carpenter Harvey in Joplin, Missouri. The Family soon moved to Coffeyville, Kansas where Nancy grew up. During high school she worked in a music store and as a lifeguard in the summer.

After graduating from Coffeyville High School, she attended Coffeyville Junior College and then transferred to Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. Nancy majored in physical education and was in the university dance troupe and on the swim team. She graduated and accepted her first job in Ponca City, Oklahoma at Garfield Elementary School teaching physical education.

It was in Ponca City that she met Roy Rogers and the couple married on March 16, 1951. In 1955 the couple moved to McAlester, Oklahoma for a short time. This is where their first child was born, Barbara Ann. Next the couple moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Nancy resumed teaching in the Tulsa Public School system. The family moved back to Ponca City in 1960, where their son Stephen Robert was born. Nancy taught physical education at Roosevelt Elementary School until 1967. The family then moved for the last time to Newkirk, Oklahoma. Until her retirement in 1983, Nancy taught physical education and science for the Newkirk Public School system.

Teaching was Nancy’s love but she also enjoyed swimming, golfing, camping, and being outside in general. She loved animals, especially horses and the dogs that she had over the years. She was active in Martha Circle, Garden Club, and Bible studies.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Vergil and Edna Harvey, her husband Roy, and her son Steve. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Jacques and husband, Dave of Shidler, Oklahoma, granddaughter Julie Jacques Lawrence and husband, Chad of Springdale, Arkansas, granddaughter Sarah Vap and husband Jesse, of Shidler, Oklahoma, and great-grandchildren Hayden, Hudson, and Eisley Lawrence, and Austin and Audrey Vap.

A visitation will be at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK on Thursday, March 16th, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. Funeral Services will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska, OK on Friday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. and followed by a 1:00 p.m. graveside service at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City.
