Dallas Gene Abplanalp, 68, of Ponca City, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 16, 2024, at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Dallas was born on September 25, 1955, to Robert and Nola (Wolfe) Abplanalp in Arkansas City, KS. Growing up Dallas attended schools in Arkansas City, where he graduated high school in 1973. After high school, he enlisted into the United States Army in 1976. He was in the 31st Infantry EUSA P8. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in South Korea and served as a Drill Sergeant.

While stationed in South Korea, he met and married SiHyoung Lee. After returning from his deployment, to this union, two children were born, Janie and Mandy. They resided in the Winfield and Arkansas City area, where he raised his family and was a devoted father. The couple later divorced.

On October 9, 2007, he was united in marriage to Rita Farley, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some of their favorite memories together include cruising around on his Harley and taking numerous road trips around the country.

After his active duty in the United States Army, he joined the United States Army Reserves where he served for 20 years until his retirement. Aside from his military career, Dallas was a dedicated employee at Total Petroleum, before finishing his career as an operator at Phillips 66 in Ponca City, where he retired in 2018.

Dallas’ hobbies included exercising, riding his Harley motorcycle, going to the lake and on vacations with his family. His biggest passions were flying and music. Dallas was an avid and talented musician and was a member of many bands where he was the bass player and sang back-up vocals. He had a love for flying airplanes and enjoyed sharing that joy with his friends and family. He was also a proud member of the American Legion. Above all, his greatest joys and accomplishments were spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Dallas is preceded in death by his father, Robert Abplanalp; infant sister, Rebecca Abplanalp. He is survived by his wife, Rita, of the home; his daughters, Janie (Kelly) Grow of Arkansas City; Mandy (Casey) Tebow of Ponca City; Grandchildren, Jonas & Rebecca Stoy of Arkansas City; Mason Meador & Madoc Tebow of Ponca City; Mother, Nola Abplanalp of Arkansas City; sisters, Tammy (Richard) Harrison of Arkansas City, Roxanne Reed of Arkansas City; Rita’s Children and Grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Grace United Methodist Church in Winfield, KS. Interment and Military Honors will follow at Highland Cemetery, Winfield, KS. A memorial has been established in Dallas’ name at the Ponca City American Legion, 106 S 4th St, Ponca City, OK 74601. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
