November 20, 1927 — June 7, 2024

Maxine Manering, age 96, passed away in her apartment on the morning of June 7th. She left us and went to be with Jesus and Eldridge, her husband.

Maxine was the 3rd daughter of Joe and Ruth Williams. Born and raised in Ponca City the Williams girls were quite something. The love of her life was Eldridge Manering and they were married on November 20, 1946. In 1949 and 1953 their 2 sons, Larry and Alex, were born. She was an active member of the Albright United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School with her sister Billie, taught in Bible School and was a youth group leader.

Maxine had a real love for life and made sure that the boys participated in EUB Church activities. To instill responsibilities, she developed the “Saturday List.” Every Saturday morning, she would wake the boys and give them a choice of “to do’s” that had to be done. She made sure that they could take care of a house and yard. They learned how to cook, clean, make beds, do laundry, dust, iron and fold clothes.

Eldridge’s job took them all over—Ponca City, Ardmore, Oklahoma City and Enid, Oklahoma; Carmi, Illinois; Ventura, California; Houston, Texas. As Eldridge promoted with Conoco, they moved to adventures overseas. They lived in Madagascar, Bogota, Columbia, Egypt, Libya, and London. She traveled extensively in that part of the world—Italy, Greece, Turkey, Israel and Russia to name a few. Maxine loved the adventures and the shopping in the new environments.

After retirement, they returned to Houston and were very active with their church and some civic groups. Finally, they moved back to Ponca City, built a nice home and got involved with Albright UMC and spending time with their grandkids. Maxine participated in the Garden Club, the International Women’s Club, quilting group and ceramic classes. She loved the social life. She went on mission trips to Mexico, serving as a translator and sharing her Biblical knowledge.

Maxine and Eldridge lived there until health reasons caused them to move to an assisted living facility in Bethany, Oklahoma. Upon Eldridge’s passing, she spent her final year in a wonderful memory care facility in Oklahoma City.

Maxine loved life and especially loved her family. She and Eldridge were married for 75 years and she considered her marriage a great blessing. Maxine was a dedicated Christian, wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and a friend to many.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Ruth Williams; her father and mother-in-law Marvin and Nola Manering; her husband Eldridge Manering; sisters Billie Carder and her husband Don, Lois Puig and her husband Jose; nephews Don Carder, Ben Masters and Mike Manering; grandson Kevin Manering She is survived by her sons Larry and his wife Keitha, Alex and his wife Carla; her grandchildren Michelle Walker and her husband Chris, Jason Manering and his wife Cara, Erin DeMoss and her husband Chris, Brenna Callison and her husband John, Tracy Clair and his wife Amber and Mark Clair; brother and sister-in-law, Jesse and Barbara Manering; 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

She loved them all so much and had many, many pictures decorating her room where she could sit and admire her family. Maxine will be missed by her family and a host of many friends.
