Eta Delta Chapter members and husbands met Feb. 28 in the home of Cecelia Schieber to hear Oklahoma University Health Science college of dentistry students discuss "Dental Care As You Age." Molly Tomek spoke about Periodontics, Cassie Redd discussed the Oral Systemic Link. Jenny Mathews explained what we should do to maintain our oral health and Erica Harmon talked about oral health and the pneumonia link. The students answered questions and explained how we should maintain our mouths to maintain our health.
Following the program, a waffle supper was enjoyed with hostesses Schieber, Marilyn Jouret, and Pat Sipe preparing the waffles.
President Judy Branch presided at the meeting and reported the Valentine Dance was a success. She also announced the Healthy Woman Program anniversary dinner will be April 8.
Sipe announced the March service project is Operation Pioneer Spirit. Paper products for Domestic Violence Program are still being collected as part of the February service project.
Sipe will host the March 8 meeting. Cheryl Ramsey and Sipe are hostesses for the March social.
Ramsey was crowned as Eta Delta's 2010 Valentine Queen. She was given the tiara, chair back and a bowl by Risa Tomek, the 2009 Queen.
LAUREATE PHI
The new year marked a new meeting date for members of Laureate Phi. Carolyn Chanslor presided over the meeting in the home of Alice Beman Sunday. Members overwhelmingly approved the move from Monday evenings to Sunday afternoons with nearly 100 percent of total membership in attendance.
Communication with Beta Sigma Phi International was discussed. The chapter decided to take a less active role in City Council; and, with approval of International, Laureate Phi will limit City Council participation to Founder's Day. Several members indicated they would attend the Founder's Day dinner to be held April 22 at Ponca City Country Club.
Lillian Williams gave the treasurer's report with only one bill outstanding.
Pat Hill collected soda pop tab tops for the Ronald McDonald House and gave an update on the project. She also distributed a sheet on Box Tops For School program sponsored by General Mills. Around 350 products are marked with the box top coupon to be clipped and saved with each worth 10-cents. Chapter members and the public are encouraged to join the campaign. A list of eligible products is available from any Laureate Phi member. Box tops will benefit area grade schools.
Chanslor gave the program on "Toxins in Our Lives." Among the points discussed were the many toxins in cigarettes that lead to heart and vision problems and cancer; the importance of pure vitamin E versus synthetic Vitamin E and the role potassium plays in one's health. Refreshments were served by Beman.
The March 14 meeting will be a business and cultural meeting in the home of Virginia Starks at 3 p.m. Program to be announced.
RHO
Jan Leach was hostess for Rho's Feb. 24 meeting with Debbie McClaskey presiding and Diana McKinnis giving the treasurer's report.
New officers for the chapter are Diana McKinnis, president; Patty Holmes, vice president; Debbie McClaskey, treasurer; Carol Neilson, recording secretary; and Dawn Pruitt, corresponding secretary. Members enjoyed dessert shared by the hostess and cheese biscuits prepared by Holmes. McClaskey won the mystery gift and Leach received the traveling basket.
A dinner to honor Valentine Queen Dawn Pruitt was held Feb. 10 at Rusty Barrell Supper Club. She received her queen's gifts as well as a cake created by McClaskey for the event. Secret sister Valentine gifts were exchanged. Neilson won the traveling basket.
The January meeting had the chapter collecting donations for domestic violence. The next service project is for Newborns in Need with all sorts of baby items requested. Holmes won the traveling basket and Leach received the mystery gift.
Bambi Correll hosted the chapter's Christmas party which featured dinner, an ornament exchange and secret sister gifts. Members also reviewed the collection of gifts for the chapter's Christmas family.
