ARKANSAS CITY — Creative Claws, Cowley College’s writing club, hosted their annual talent show on Thursday, March 9.
“Everyone I talked to after the show was delighted with the wide variety of acts,” Marlys Cervantes, Department Chair of Humanities said. “We really appreciate the students, staff, and community members who came out to support our students.”
The acts included vocalists, poets, dance, mime and juggling, and the winners included a variety of crowd pleasers. Overall Champion was Gunner Johnson, with his remarkable juggling routine. First runner-up was Liz Shepard, singing “I Will Survive”; second runner-up was Quinn Johnson’s poetry selections; and third runner-up was a mime routine performed by Stephanie Bloyer.
“All of the acts were terrific,” said community member Kelly Johnson. “We had such a good time.”
Cervantes thanks everyone who helped put on the event, especially all of those who performed. “Cowley students possess such wonderful talent, and it’s exciting to see them performing. I was so proud of every single one,” Cervantes said.
Emcee Gavin Brown kept the crowd entertained throughout the evening, and judges were Frank Arnold, Kris Ripley, and Kristi Shaw.
Upcoming events for Cowley’s Creative Writing program are Lines and Lyrics on the Lawn on April 7 and April 21; Writers’ Corner on April 27; and the student showcase on May 10. I
