Rick Coutre, lovingly known as “Boo Boo” to his grandchildren, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Via Christi Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kan.

A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Rick was born in Evanston, Ill. on Jan. 17, 1954, the son of Ted and Ramona Tufo Coutre. His gift to others was that of service and giving. A life of service to his God, his family, his country and anyone he found that just needed a little help in this life. Even as a young child, his mother said he could be found chasing after the mailman or the milkman to make sure they had a drink of water on a hot day.

He married Sherri Adkins on April 8, 1981 and they began their journey of 36 years together. Rick loved music, gardening, being with his grandchildren and spoiling his fur babies. He was most comfortable quietly serving others. He served his country as Major Richard Coutre in the United States Army. This service took him to many areas of the world. Areas such as, Germany, Bosnia, Honduras, Iraq and he also served stateside in a career of over 20 years. He served always in a leadership role and was very proud of his time serving his country.

He served his community as a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Ponca City, as a United States postal worker in Ponca City and the Blackwell area and as a Dosin for the Tall Grass Prairie near Pawhuska.

He loved music, it was a deep part of his life and as a young man he enjoyed spinning the vinyl as a “pilot of the airways”. He did so for several years at different radio stations. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan! Rick loved his family. He tried to never miss a grandchild’s ball game and was always there to cheer them on. They were his life.

He will be missed dearly by his family including his wife, Sherri; children, Jeremy Coutre, Crystal Coutre Ferguson (Scott), Isaac Coutre (Shannon), Zack Coutre, Ted Coutre and Kristen Flores (Albert); mother, Ramona Coutre; his grandchildren, Owen Coutre, Braden Coutre, Rayce Ferguson, Pyper Ferguson, Ethan Coutre, Erin Coutre, Emercyn Coutre, Andrew Arechiga, Allison Arechiga, Abram Arechiga and Carlos Arechiga; brothers, Gary Coutre (Peggy), Chris Coutre (Colleen), Tony Coutre (Beth) and Mark Coutre (Peggy); sisters, Mini Batson (Jim) and Nan Coutre and father- and mother-in-law, Ron and Pat Adkins.

He was preceded in death by his father.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Mary’s Catholic School, 415 South Seventh Street, Ponca City, OK 74601

May God grant him peace, love and Cubs winning season every year!

Sherri and family, condolences on Rick's passing. You all were my neighbors on Donahoe years ago there in Ponca. Grateful that he served in the military; and, may he rest in peace. Linda Odum
