Robert Ray (Bob) Young, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Grove, Okla., after a short battle with cancer on Feb. 19, 2017.
Bob was born in Ponca City, Feb. 10, 1938. He attended Ponca City Schools, graduating from Riverside Poly High School in Riverside, Calif. He also attended Riverside City College. He worked for ROHR Aircraft for 38 years as Inspector Supervisor in Riverside, Calif., before retiring and relocating to Grove, Okla.
Bob loved Sports Car Racing and was a flagman at the Long Beach Grand Prix, Riverside, Calif., he was affiliated with The Long Beach MG Racing Club. His love for the track took him many places if he was flagging or just a spectator. He was a collector of Nascar memorabilia. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be the lake, ocean, river or just a pond, fishing and noodling for catfish was his passions. He loved being at the lake boating with his family and friends. He moved from a big city to a little town with a big lake.
Bob is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; sisters, Ethel Long and Bill, Ellen Hinchberger and Darrell, Linda Boone and Jerry, Marilee McKnight, brother, Lejoe Young and Becky, all formerly of Ponca City; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins including Linda Spangler Rennie and many friends that will miss him very much.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon B. Young and LaVera Spangler Young Cipriano; stepmother, Margarette Young Keys; stepfather, Paul R Cipriano; grandparents, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, stepdaughter and nephew.
A memorial service will be held April 8, at 2 p.m., at the Crosswired Cowboy Church, located at 28565 S 670 Rd, Grove, Okla. A reception will follow.
